Is it full steam ahead for Zayn Malik as a solo artist?
This news has given many of his fans across the world a lift and surge of joy. There have been a handful of artists who rose to popularity as part of a band/group and who, after going solo, spawned hits when they released their first solo album. Former 1D member Zayn Malik, who has been hounded by good & bad publicity even before dropping out of the One Direction World Tour and announcing his decision to leave the group, may be charting a similar path.
For the past several months, there have been non-stops tweets and posts on social media citing possible substance abuse, relationship problems, stress & illness that have bogged down the 22-year-old singer. Zayn's One Direction bandmates have concentrated on their projects following the release of their fourth album Four, and picked up the slack in his absence. Yet the global trending topic on the "down-but-not-out" singer remains unabated.
Zayn is banking on his international popularity to kickstart the new chapter in his career - as a solo artist. Now that he's no longer with teens' and young adults' "Favorite Music Group," Zayn has lost no time embarking on his first solo project. He's off to a smooth start with a track that has been collaborated with Naughty Boy, an English record producer, DJ and songwriter.
Talks are rife that Zayne will remain a Syco artist as gears for the creation of his own new music. It must be noted that Simon Cowell -- who has signed up the five One Direction members under his British record label Syco Records-must give his nod of approval on any 1D member's solo joint.
Some of Zayn's fans have been furious that he's going solo. Others say they fully support the singer's career path. Will Zayn overcome all the negative publicity that has been heaped upon him and come out with chart-topping hits? Only time will tell.
