Microsoft’s Surface Pro 4 vs. Apple’s New 2015 MacBook Showdown: Processor, Design, Storage, Price, Release Date

By

Both Microsoft and Apple are reported to have upcoming laptop releases this year. Apple will be updating its new 2015 MacBook (which means a newer 2015 MacBook), and Microsoft is slated for a Surface Pro 4 launch. While fans are bombarded with promising specs and killer features for both devices, one might get a trouble getting down to which will come out better.

Surface Pro 4 is expected to redefine the laptop/tablet competition in the market, promising practicability, design and versatility. Meanwhile, the update for the new 2015 MacBook will bank on its lucrative name while giving out killer specs, particularly the processor.

Here's a short rundown to choosing between Microsoft's Surface Pro 4 and Apple's newer 2015 MacBook.

Processor

Processor is the center of it all. Surface Pro 4 is reported to run the newest Intel Core M line processor. This new chip brings in "fan-less" technology for a more convenient and silent working mode. The fifth generation 64-bit Broadwell processor will boost system competence, including the battery life and graphics performance. The new 2015 MacBook will sport Intel's latest Skylake processor which primarily gives the device a speed boost. Skylake will be the pioneer 14nm chip developed by Intel and will ditch the 20nm Broadwell.

Keyboard

Surface Pro 4 will go beyond its predecessor's Type Cover keyboard by adding another keyboard. While Type Cover functions as a protective cover for the tablet, the new keyboard will have sturdy hinges for the laptop attached to a strong magnet. MacBook Pro will get a trackpad powered by Force Touch technology to detect varying degrees of touch pressures.

Display

Microsoft's laptop/tablet hybrid is reported to come out in two variants with 2160 x 1440 resolution: the 8-inch and 12-inch versions. The new MacBook 2015 will sport a 12-inch Retina display with 2304 x 1440 resolution.

Storage

Surface Pro 4 is slated to have a killer 1 TB of internal storage in maximum whereas MacBook will come with up to 512GB only. For RAM, Microsoft is brewing an 8GB storage, while Apple 16GB.

Design

MacBook 2015 with Retina display is the thinnest MacBook ever built at 13.1mm thick and weighs 2 pounds. Surface Pro 4 will be much thinner and lighter, going beyond Surface Pro 3's .36 inches width and 1.76 pounds in weight.

Price

The new 2015 MacBook is estimated to sell at $1,299 while Surface Pro 4's estimated cost ranges between $800 and $1,799.

Release Date

While Apple is reported brewing April 10, 2015 for the new 2015 MacBook, Surface Pro 4 is slated in July 2015.
