According to reports by Gotta Be Mobile, Canadian mobile carrier Bell has announced that it plans to release the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop update in early April. The announcement was reportedly given via Twitter. However, no specific date was mentioned yet.

The announcement gave implications that Galaxy Note 4 users on Bell will have an Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade next month. And, it could possibly mean that there is also going to be a widespread Galaxy Note 4 Lollipop release in Canada that will soon to take place next month.

When the update comes out, it could be possible that Galaxy Note 4 users in Canada would experience the same new features as well as problems. However, it will still depend on the mobile carriers what features to roll out and how to deal with the glitches.

Meanwhile, Samsung Galaxy S5 is now ready to receive the new Android 5.0 Lollipop OTA from Verizon, reports by Android Geeks.

In February, Verizon released a Lollipop update for the Galaxy S5 but was later cancelled due to various bugs that need to be fixed shortly after its release. This latest build will have a version set to G900VVRU1BOC4 that will come with various features and functions such as a new much colorful and smoother Material Design UI than KitKat, TouchWiz improvements, improved quick settings toggles, improved icons, Smart Lock, Download Booster, Device Sharing, Intelligent Notifications rankings, native Battery Saving Mode, etc. Besides its array of improvements, one of the most noticeable in the upgrade is the Recents screen that enables users to find all the recent applications used previously and adding better multi-tasking capabilities for the device.

The update is expected to come out in phases and will go on in the following weeks until all Verizon users run the Android 5.0 Lollipop.

For those using Samsung's Galaxy S4 (LTE) model, International Business Times AU posted the steps on installing a new Android 5.1 Lollipop custom ROM for the said smartphone.

The new firmware is called "CyanogenMod [unofficial] Android 5.0.1 Lollipop CM12 Custom ROM on Samsung Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505)" and was created by a senior XDA Developer forum member, named as AntaresOne.

The custom ROM is still experimental and issues are yet to be fixed. Hence, readers are advised to go through the whole article before installing the custom ROM.

Some of the things to remember before proceeding with the installation are the following:

  • Though installing custom ROM improves the device's performance and UI experiences, it makes the company warranty void and they will no longer be liable to provide updates in future [users can restore warranty by flashing the device with stock-ROM].
  • Make sure the device is rooted before going forward with custom ROM installation.
  • This new CyanogenMod CM12.1 series firmware has to be installed on the Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 LTE series-Snapdragon chipset based- (jflte, including jflteatt, jfltevzw & jfltexx) models only; if tried on other devices, it might get bricked [To check your device model: Go to Settings >> About phone >> model number]
  • Users make sure they have installed USB drivers on the PC, or else your smartphone (Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505) will not be recognized by the computer.
  • Installation of custom ROM requires clearing of memory in the smartphone, so make sure to back all the data by installing Clockwork Mod (CWM) Recovery/ TWRP in the smartphone.
  • Also make sure your device has more than 80 percent battery, or else there is chance of the smartphone getting temporarily bricked if the installation process is interrupted mid-way.

To install the experimental ROM, click this, then read and follow the instructions carefully. Be reminded to read the disclaimer as well.
