The world of Bloodborne is a pretty unforgiving place especially for a regular bloke to tread on. A single wrong step can literally be 'the end' so it is wise to learn how to survive. Compiling every survival tips from every previous hunters that have passed on is a sure doozy, but here are some of the best provided by hunters from IGN, Gamespot and Eurogamer.
Enhance the flee response mechanism
Running from a fight can sometimes mean cowardice, but running away from a mob of hell-spawn, vicious killer beasties is not that bad. Frankly, it is the most logical thing one can do in that kind of situation. However, it is not possible every time in Bloodborne as Big bosses must be brought down to hell's fiery justice. But, if one can run, by all means 'run like the wind.'
Never underestimate the power of distraction
Whether it is just using a pebble to distract heartless - literally - Yarnham folks to using a 'pungent blood cocktail' to quench the thirst of the 'Blood-starved beast,' distraction is a powerful tool in Bloodborne. Practice the use of items in the game meant for this strategy and Yarnham becomes somewhat a fun vacation place for the family. Use distraction to lure the attention of enemies to open up a chance to deliver massive, melee strikes.
Observe enemy behavior
This tip comes straight from accomplished hunters from IGN. They tell newbie hunters that observing enemy behaviour is very important to survive in Bloodborne's hellish environment. Enemies, especially bosses have attacking patterns where they have downtimes. These 'downtimes' could be after a down swing of a heavy cleaver or such. This minuscule delay is the best time to lunge in for a devastating attack as it is the moment where bosses are most vulnerable.
Exploit the 'regain' system
Whenever a hunter is damaged by an enemy, there is an instant way to regain lost health points. The regain system works by exploiting a small 'window of opportunity' after being hit to deliver an up-close, gritty, blood-splattering counter-attack that will 'regain' one's health. This encourages players to favour aggressive attacks than just camping.
Lastly, guns blazing just won't do
Though Bloodborne does give hunters the luxury of carrying a firearm, it is by no means a shooting game. The mechanics of firearms and the limited amounts of bullets one can carry prevents hunters from becoming a trigger happy desperado in a citywide zombie shooting fest. Guns are best used to stun enemies in preparation for a 'visceral attack,' which in some cases can kill off difficult enemies and some game bosses.
