Microsoft's newly revealed tablet device, Surface 3, last Tuesday that can transform into a laptop is convincingly a MacBook Air killer based on its specs, price, and designs. Slimmer and more less costly, Surface 3 is a two-in-one device that delivers promising performance both in laptop and tablet mode. It sports a 10.8-inch display with 1920 x 1280 resolution and runs with an Intel Atom x7 processor.
Microsoft has completely ditched the Windows RT for mobile devices and instead replaced it a full Windows 8.1 operating system. The tablet is also upgradable to Windows 10 when it will be officially released by summer.
According to a Time report, with the new Surface 3 tablet things will improve for Microsoft from its troubling sales in Surface line. Microsoft Surface 3 is available with a base price of $499 compared to Apple's $899-or-more 11-inch MacBook Air. This comes with a 2GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. However, for those who want to add the keyboard to complete the 2-in-1 PC, Surface keyboard can also be bought at only $129.
A more powerful version of Surface Pro 3 2-in-1 PC can be bought at $599 with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. To add 4G-LTE wireless connectivity, just add extra $100.The keyboards comes in vibrant color variants like bright tomato red, darker burgundy, light blue, purple, slate gray and dark blue.
In terms of portability, owners need not to worry because the device is just 1.4 pounds in weight-slightly heavier than iPad Air and lighter than the new MacBook. Adding the type cover, Surface Pro 3 tablet still weighs less than 2 pounds. Meanwhile, the device is also super thin at just .34 inches.
Surface Pro 3 tablet also uses the same plug of an iPhone, replacing the magnetic charger in favor of the sought-after micro-USB port.
Its kickstand transforms into three different positions: couch, desk, and lap. This feature makes a versatile Surface Pro 3 tablet compared to the Surface Pro 3 laptop which has continuous hinges. Surface Pen works in other Surface Pro devices for writing, capturing screen shots, highlighting texts and launching One Note.
The device also has two high-definition cameras capable of shooting 1080p video: an 8MP rear camera and a 3.5MP front camera. Most importantly, its battery life can last up to 10 hours of normal use. It is large enough to watch 10 hours of video on a single charge.
Surface 3 tablet is available for pre-order at the Microsoft store and will hit stores by May 7.
