Viggo Mortensen gave Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight a pass, which could have given him another worldwide exposure since his role as Aragorn in the massively-successful Lord of the Rings franchise.
In an interview with Grantland, Viggo Mortensen revealed that he regrettably turned down Tarantino's The Hateful Eight due to conflicting schedules.
Mortensen admitted that he and the Django Unchained director met to discuss the movie and his possibly biggest role next to Aragorn. However, his attachment to the film did not pan out since Tarantino wanted to start shooting and do rehearsals at a time when Mortensen had to do promotions for an Argentine film he produced entitled Jauja.
"That's the only reason [I passed]. It would have been really, really fun to work with him. I think he's really smart and funny," Mortensen told Grantland. He also disclosed that he previously auditioned for Tarantino's 1992 film the Reservoir Dogs.
