The former wife of The Beatles' John Lennon, Cynthia Lennon has passed away at the age of 75. Cynthia succumbed after her short battle with cancer in her home at Mallorca, Spain.
A brief message was conveyed in her son, Julian Lennon's website, regarding the devastating news, "Her son Julian Lennon was at her bedside throughout. The family are thankful for your prayers". Julian who is also an accomplished musician posted a video music footage in YouTube entitled "In Loving Memory". The video shows intimate pictures of the Lennon family during the 1960's.
She was born Cynthia Lillian Powell in Blackpool on 10 September 1939. Cynthia met John at Liverpool College of Art in 1957 and they married in 1962 just before The Beatles became a byword for every screaming teenage girl in the planet. They divorced in 1968 after the most prominent Beatle finally had enough of domestic life and John continued seeking solace with Japanese artist Yoko Ono.
Despite the ill-fated union, Cynthia was to marry several more times but became a widow in 2013 with the death of her husband, Noel Charles. Through these heartbreaks she managed to published several memoirs and she even managed to finally have her recording debut with her own rendition of "Those Were The Days", a classic from Mary Hopkins.
Sir Paul McCartney,Yoko Ono and Ringo Starr expressed their condolences as they remembered Cynthia intimately. "I'm very saddened by Cynthia's death. She was a great person and a wonderful mother to Julian," Ono disclosed.
John's bandmate, Paul McCarthy mournfully reminisced: "The news of Cynthia's passing is very sad. She was a lovely lady who I've known since our early days together in Liverpool." Their drummer Ringo Starr, also gave his sympathies, "Peace and love to Julian Lennon God bless Cynthia love Ringo and Barbara xx" via Tweeter.
May Pang, best known for being the former girlfriend of John Lennon during his so-called "Lost Weekend" period and who also became close with Cynthia also wrote on her official Facebook : "I am so devastated this morning with the loss of my good friend."
