True Detective, HBO's critically acclaimed crime drama, is coming back for the all-new new season 2 in the summer of 2015. The second season promises the same intense, mind-bending storylines as the first with a whole new cast of characters and a different mystery to solve in California instead of Louisiana.
This season, in a city somewhere between San Francisco and Los Angeles, starts with the ruthless murder of a corrupt government official by the name of Ben Caspar during a very important transportation deal that could affect the freeway gridlock problem of the state. This brings three different law enforcement agents from three different points of the state to apprehend the killer.
Considering the body would have satanic symbols carved into his chest, the series will undoubtedly lead to some darker areas of the city. This murder will also affect Vince Vaughn's character Frank Semyon, a career criminal, whose empire is jeopardized when he finds out that Caspar is dead.
In addition to Semyon, the three officers tasked to solve this murder have their own set of personal issues that is expected from the show. Colin Farrell will play an officer who wants to escape from his connections with the mob and the corruption that has followed him throughout his career. Taylor Kitsch will play a war veteran with PTSD who is trying to dismiss a sexual scandal involving a young woman. Rachel McAdams plays the alcoholic, gambler of a sheriff of the town where the murder takes place.
HBO programming director Michael Lombardo said during the Edinburgh TV Festival that the second season will not be as dark as the first but it will not be an emotionally easy season either, indicating that writer Nic Pizzolatto likes to delve into the shadows that plague a person's soul. Lombardo also teased fans during the Television Critics Association press tour that the scripts they have are more exciting than the previous season. Nic Pizzolatto assured that the show was still going to be strange.
Fans should not discount the evils that a human being is capable of and though the next season is not going to go deep into the darkness, humans are still able to surprise you with horrific acts.
Summer is only a few months away and soon there will be an exact release date for the season 2 of True Detective. For now, fans are just going to have to wait for more updates about the thrilling, heart-pounding crime show.
