The honeymoon is definitely over. Things will be rocky for newlyweds Claire Randall and Jamie Fraiser as "Outlander" begins the second half of it first season on April 4 which will have eight more episodes.
Catriona Balfe told People that Claire and Jaime's relationship as a newly married couple will not be that easy. "We really see Claire and Jamie's relationship get tested." Balfe, 35, together with other "Outlander" casts attended the midseason premiere of the cable series in New York City.
The new video clip from Starz's "Outlander", showed the impending turbulence of Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie's (Sam Heughan) relationship after she was rescued from Black Jack Randall. Claire is also feeling frustrated over being a modern-day woman (of the 1940s) trying to break free from 18th century norms and customs.
Balfe also confirms that although Claire and Jamie's relationship is on the rocks, there will still be a lot of steamy and passionate scenes. "They married very quickly. It was love and like a honeymoon phase, and now, not only do they have all these external forces coming into play that are going to test them, there's a lot of internal friction because they're two different people from different times."
According to Catriona Balfe, there still hope for the couple. "They really have to figure out maybe not accepting each other's behavioral ways," the actress said, "but understanding where it's coming from so that way they can continue to build their relationship."
However, Diana Gabaldon's best-selling book series, upon which the cable series is based, the first half of the miniseries is merely a foreplay of what is yet to come.
"Outlander" encompasses the genres of romance, science fiction, history, and adventure as it follows Claire Randall, a married British combat nurse in 1945 who mysteriously falls back through time to 1743 Scotland. She becomes torn between her husband, Frank Randall (Tobias Menzies), and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), a Scottish warrior who comes to her rescue.
The first half of the season ended with Claire dealing with her marriage to Jamie when she is captured by the English Redcoats led Black Jack Randall who brutally interrogated her before Jamie comes to her rescue. The second half will look at Jamie's heroic efforts and Claire standing trial for witchcraft.
