The world's famous bear "Winnie the Pooh" has now joined Disney's list of well-known characters to have a live-action feature adaptation. Writer-director of Listen Up Philip and independent filmmaker Alex Ross Perry has been approached to write the "Winnie the Pooh" live action movie.
It is reported that the upcoming "Winnie the Pooh" remake will tell the story of the adult Christopher Robin and his reunion with the famous bear in the Hundred Acre Wood. Alex Ross Perry pitched a story to the studio which lands him the job.
Disney has already produced other "Winnie the Pooh" animated films, the latest was in 2011 that only performed modestly in the box office since it opened in the same weekend as "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part 2."
But with the current trend that Disney has set since the release of "Maleficent," which dominated box office charts last year, it seems Disney is hell-bent to continue making live-action version of their popular animated characters.
With the massive success of Disney in the Kenneth Branagh's latest remake of "Cinderella," earning more than $300 Million worldwide, Disney's decision to make a "Winnie the Pooh" adaptation is a no-brainer.
In fact, aside from the remake of "Winnie the Pooh," Disney is also eyeing "Dumbo", "The Jungle Book", "Beauty and the Beast", and "Mulan."
Despite the trend that Disney is setting, an report suggest that the live-action movie adaptation of "Winnie the Pooh" is a bit too far. It is really hard to imagine Pooh and his friends go live in the silver screen despite the fact that today's CGI are cutting edge. Hopefully Disney can pull it off and give justice to the classic Disney character.
One cannot contend the popularity of "Winnie the Pooh" and his friends. However, will it be enough to perform well in the box office? But with an innovative director in their team, Disney might find a way to present their famous characters in a manner that not only kids will enjoy but adults will find satisfactory as well.
