"Tron 3" might use "Tron: Ascension" as the title for its second sequel, which production will start in fall. After almost five years since the release of "Tron: Legacy" in 2010, there have been online speculations about another sequel and the possible return of Garrett Hedlund and other "Tron: Legacy" casts.
In 2013, "Tron: Legacy" director Joseph Kosinski teased about the potential confinement of another sequel. Until recently, a tweet emerged about possible title of "Tron 3" and the start of its production later this year. Vancouver was reportedly chosen as location for shooting film.
It was reported that Walt Disney gave "Tron 3" a go signal despite the mixed reviews that "Tron: Legacy earned in 2010. However, only Garret Hedlund has been confirmed to reprise his role. But with how the first sequel ended, it is only reasonable that Olivia Wilde will also make her return to "Tron 3."
These recent reports also led the fans of the franchise into guessing what the story of "Tron 3" will be. The first sequel's ending is actually one of the film's plot twists, where Olivia Wilde's character Quorra, the last ISO, decided to jump from The Grid into the real world where she first saw a real sunrise.
In "Tron: Ascension", speculations rose that because of Quorra's bold move to leave the digital world, other sections in The Grid could find a way to leap into the real world as well. However another report suggests that "Tron 3" should not be included in Disney's list of upcoming movies. "Tron" and "Tron: Legacy" are both forgettable and did not manage to really create an impact in the respective years which they were released. The only legacy of "Tron: Legacy" is its visual appeal and its solid soundtrack (thanks to Daft Punk). But other than that, the story did not really impress a lot of critics.
At the moment, major details about "Tron 3" are still sketchy. "Tron: Ascension" is like the wild card in the "Tron" franchise. With Disney greenlighting the second sequel, it is just wise if they hire people that will further enhance the film's visual appeal and also make an engaging story.
