Sony is reportedly working on a phablet to be released this year. Rumors are saying that it will be powered by a Snapdragon 810 chip. They will also roll out latest Android 5.0 Lollipop updates for various Xperia Z versions. Recently, a suspected Xperia Z4 has said to have passed through the FCC that bore the model name, PM-0780. Though some find it fairly inadequate to prove that the mysterious device is Sony's Xperia Z4, its 5.75 x 2.87 dimensions and a microSD card slot give buyers clues.
The width and height of the mysterious device are the same with the Xperia Z3 (5.75 x 2.87 inches), reports by GSMArena. Further, the FCC certification reportedly mentioned the presence of a microSD card. Because of this, others are convinced that the device is the Sony Xperia Z4. It will come out with an Android 5.x Lollipop with Sony's own lightweight UI.
There were also leaked details about the Xperia Z4 that reportedly pointed to a 5.1-inch 1080p display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC, 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB storage, 20 MP rear camera with LED flash, and a 5 MP front-facing camera.
Ecumenical News noted that the Xperia Z4 would have a 3420mAh battery, various connectivity options such as Bluetooth, NFC, GPS, and Wi-Fi. Plus, it will be waterproof and dustproof.
Meanwhile, reports by Tech Times said that owners of Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact could expect for an updated version of Android Lollipop. Next week, Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet owners will also have the update as well as the Xperia T2 Ultra and Xperia C3.
It was also mentioned that Sony reportedly posted in their Google+ account a teaser image that hints of an Android 5.0 Lollipop update for Xperia Z series smartphones. Though, no exact date has been revealed yet, but it will definitely come out any time soon. Plus,
The OS updates for Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z1, and Xperia Z Ultra devices will be rolled out within the same time. This was known through a post in Sony's Mobile News Twitter account. Plus, an Android 5.0 Lollipop update will also come to Xperia Z2 devices next week.
However, users who have Sony smartphones that are not included in the Xperia Z line will not have the Android 5.0 Lollipop update, except for the Xperia T2 Ultra and Xperia C3.
There are reports that Sony is working on a 6-inch Xperia Z4 phablet that is likely to be launched this year. It is said to have the same specs as the Xperia Z4 phone. The company is reportedly planning to sell about 38 million devices this whole year.
