Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 10051 Surfaced Online; Mail and Calendar Apps Revamped

By

Leaks are continuously coming in as Microsoft further progresses in developing its new operating system. Recently, Windows technical preview build 10051 has appeared online bringing a few changes with it. The most obvious ones are the new Mail and Calendar apps that has the environment similar to that of MS Office applications.

Microsoft exhibited the early versions of the apps during its Windows 10 event back in January. However, it seems that the software giant is willing to test their apps further in order to ensure that they are consumer-friendly. Official preview releases should become available in the following weeks.

The Mail app supports new swipe gestures, which were also integrated to Microsoft Outlook for Android and iOS. While it is currently called “Mail”, Microsoft could rename it to Outlook before Windows 10 becomes available to the public this summer.

As for the Calendar app, its new build is said to match the interface of the Mail app while keeping its basic features from its Windows 8 version. Leaks revealed that it now supports Google Calendar integration. However, Microsoft seems to keep it as a separate app from Mail, unlike to the new Outlook for mobile that comes with features from Mail, Calendar, and Contacts.

Aside from the revamped Mail and Calendar apps, Windows technical preview build 10051 also includes the new Microsoft Family app for users to set parental controls. They have also applied minor changes to apps, as well as the “open in Internet Explorer” selection in its new Spartan Browser. While Microsoft no longer wants to pin IE to the Start Menu and on the Taskbar, this doesn’t necessarily mean that they are going to hide it entirely.

Windows technical preview build 10051 is available for testers, but a public preview should come out any time soon. The said build, however, is just an optional download. So, testers can choose whether or not to apply this update with their current Windows install.
