Chinese phone maker OnePlus has just unveiled its own mobile operating system, OnePlus OxygenOS. The said software was made within the labs of OnePlus and it includes features similar to those of Android 5.0 Lollipop. The developers have also thrown a few extras to make it even OnePlus devices more efficient to use.
OnePlus’s own mobile OS looks almost identical as the clean Android OS. However, OxygenOS contains bonus features. These include gesture shortcuts that allow users to perform certain tasks while the screen is off, a more extensive quick settings menu, file explorer, as well as some advanced options similar to those in the Cyanogen mod.
The company says that OnePlus OxygenOS aims to provide faster, more meaningful updates with better-integrated services for all OnePlus user. During the previous year, the company tried to compete with other phone manufacturers like Samsung and HTC as it launches the OnePlus One running a modded Android OS on their devices. The custom operating system was developed by Cyanogen.
For now, the two companies (OnePlus and Cyanogen) would have to part ways since Cyanogen has signed an agreement with Micromax, an India-based phone maker. The deal was made prior to OnePlus’s introduction in the region. Their stressed relationship has sped up the development of OxygenOS although it is behind its original release date that was March 27. While there are no official release date yet on the software, OxygenOS is expected to be the default mobile operating system of future devices like the OnePlus Two.
OnePlus OxygenOS was designed to be lightweight while focusing on performance and power consumption. Over-the-air installation method is not yet available at the moment. Then again, an official website is available for all the details on getting the operating system running on OnePlus devices. According to OnePlus’s blog, the development of OxygenOS has been fun and challenging since the developing team has to go back to basics.
