LG G Pad 8.3 GPE Android 5.1 Lollipop Update Guide

By

LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition (GPE) starts receiving the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop yesterday through an over-the-air (OTA) update. The update is only 200MB is size and it brings a slew of bug fixes and improvements for the device, including enhanced security measure, plus the ability control paired Bluetooth devices as well as W-Fi networks from Quick Settings.

Like any update on other handsets, the Android 5.1 Lollipop will be out in stages. LG G Pad 8.3 GPE will receive an automatic notification from Google through the device's mobile carrier. To begin the installation, tap the message and follow onscreen instructions.

If not notified by the network, head over to Settings > About tablet > System updates > Check now. Then follow onscreen instructions. In strange cases, Android 5.1 Lollipop's over-the-air update sometimes fail due to changes to the system software.

Based on its features to Nexus devices, Android 5.1 Lollipop might also bring to G Pad 8.3 GPE on-body detection, smarter Wi-Fi connection, device protection, HD voice calls, new priority mode and a lot more.

On-body detection feature will prevent locking the device when it sets down it itself. This works through an accelerometer. A smarter Wi-Fi connection automatically finds strong Wi-Fi connection, sifting through a vast number of detected connections.

Device protection meanwhile will help users tighten security through disabling PIN code or pattern locks when the tablet does not recognize the user or is stolen, unless the user's email and password will be entered. HD voice calls is the much-awaited feature for the release as it will bring crystal-clear voice call quality.

Lock screen has Quick Settings for a more convenient access to Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, flashlight, etc. Google's Nexus 6 and Nexus 5 already run Lollipop's first maintenance release while the Nexus 9, Nexus 4 and 2013 Nexus 7 are still in the queue.

The G Pad 8.3 GPE sports an 8.3-inch display with 1920 x 1200-pixel resolution. It is powered by a 1.7GHz quad core Snapdragon 600 processor with a 2GB of RAM and a 16GB internal storage. The tablet has 4600mAh Li-ion battery. Its camera has 5MP rear camera and 1.3MP front shooter.
