'Fifty Shades Darker' Release without Jamie Dornan? Universal Frantically Searching for New Cast, Director

By

While Fifty Shades of Grey was a massively succesful film as far as box office dollars go (the film pulled in more than $500,000 at the worldwide box office), it wasn't quite seen as successful as far as its stars and star chemistry went. For one, many fans and critics weren't satisfied with the chemistry between Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey and Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele. And in Fifty Shades of Grey, chemistry between actors is kind of a crucial thing.

It's gotten to the point where rumors are circulating that Jamie Dornan may not appear in the franchise's second film, Fifty Shades Darker. Adding fuel to the fire are several other rumors, all offering differing reasons why Dornan might not appear in the film. Perhaps it's his wife, who has reservations about her husband being the lead in an extremely explicit, sex-based film? Perhaps it's his salary, which was surprisingly small for a Hollywood star in a major leading role.

One thing's for sure, however- Universal is committed to putting out a Fifty Shades sequel, and they've already begun the search for a new director after Sam Taylor-Johnson, Fifty Shades of Grey's original director, dropped out. If Dornan was to drop out too, it's not a stretch to see his role recast in Fifty Shades Darker.

Taylor-Johnson has already spoken openly about her on-set feuds with Fifty Shades of Grey author E.L. James, citing that as the primary reason why she quit the sequel.

"I'm not going to lie. We definitely fought, but they were creative fights and we would resolve them. We would have proper on-set barneys, and I'm not confrontational, but it was about finding a way between the two of us, satisfying her vision of what she'd written as well as my need to visualize this person on screen, but, you know, we got there."

It's not unreasonable to see Dornan going through a similar situation- and end up quitting the film because of it. And if that's the case... who do you think might be cast as the new Christian Grey?
