'Need for Speed 2' under pre-production; EA on negotiation with Chinese firms; Will Aaron Paul reprise his role?

By

"Need for Speed 2" may be set on China as Electronic Arts are on the negotiating table with three Chinese firms. Will they top the charts and be more successful than "Fast and Furious'?

Perhaps the great financial success of Fast and Furious pushed the creation of the Need for Speed sequel. After all, fast cars are a great way to attract people. Latest reports are coming in that Electronic Arts (the people behind the game and behind the movie) is looking to partner up with three Chinese firms to create a sequel. Now this news made lots of Need for Speed fans happy as a clam!

Panned By Critics, Watched By Millions

The first Need for Speed movie starring Aaron Paul of Breaking Bad fame did not really made any good impression with movie critics, but it was a great success financially speaking. The movie which cost $66 million to produce drew $43 million on US box offices and $66 more in China alone. The figures show that the first big screen adaptation of the racing video game may not please movie experts but it captured the heart of movie goers. The movie's success in China has EA looking to take advantage of the already primed market.

The Players

The three companies that are looking to partner up with EA are the China Movie Channel Program Center, Jiaflix Enterprises, and 1905 Pictures. The third one is a film development company that has already worked on a big Hollywood project before. They teamed up with Paramount to promote and market the last "Transformers" film with a lot of success...to the tune of $330 million ticket sale in China.

Working On The Sequel

DreamWorks though holds the right to a sequel so nothing can be done towards creating the planned movie yet. Talks between the parties have not yet started but it hasn't stopped the talks about the proposed movie being filmed mostly in China and featuring more Chinese talents. Whether this will come to fruition in the near future remains to be still a mystery.

"Need for Speed 2" is currently under pre-production. Fans will have to wait until DreamWorks confirms their tie up with the Chinese firms before they can see the movie in motion. Stay in tune for more updates
