Bandai Namco confirms to re-evaluate the official release of Tekken 7 new characters because of the leak. The gaming community has not been deprived of leaks, ranging from gameplay features to release dates, from a handful of upcoming video games or DLCs.
Gamers are always looking forward to new updates and reveals about on-going or upcoming games. But when the news is revealed before the supposed "big announcement," the surprise loses its impact. For Tekken 7, the case was with the three new characters. The characters were leaked a week before Bandai Namco was supposed to officially introduce them.
Producer and series director Katushiro Harada briefly hinted via Twitter on what a nuisance the leaks are for the team. When asked by Mark "MarkMan" Julio of MadCatz about his plans for Japan's Golden Week (a series of Japanese holidays starting with Showa Day on April 29), Harada replied, "No. Cuz about that "Leaked". We are changing character develop & release timing. Rush&Busy."
Harada's tweet clearly implied a change of plans as Harada and his team decided not to take part in Japan's Golden Week in order to change the character development and release schedule of the characters in Tekken 7.
The three new characters that were leaked added Jin Kazama, Devil Jin, and Josie Rizal to the roster of playable characters. Jin Kazama makes his playable debut as he previously played the role of hidden sub-boss. Devil Jin is Jin Kazama's evil alter ego who possesses a number of unique abilities compared to his non-evil counterpart. Josie Rizal is a never before seen character in the Tekken series. Mark "MarkMan" Julio, a Filipino, contributed to the creation of Josie's character.
This is not the first time that news about Tekken 7 was leaked. Even the announcement of the game itself went out before Harada could formally and officially introduce it. Due to the leak, Harada decided to announce Tekken 7 instead of another game when he took the stage at the 2014 EVO.
