Fans of the superhero family in the 2004 hit The Incredibles is in for a treat as a sequel is in the works and progressing at quite a steady pace. Disney's CEO Robert Iger announced in April of last year that they are already working on a second movie about the family of superheroes. Brad Bird, the writer and director for the first film said during the announcement that there is already a story idea for Incredibles 2.
The first The Incredibles movie was a massive hit. It had an estimated budget of $92 million and ended up earning more than $260 million domestically. It told the story of a family with superhero abilities living undercover only to break out when the world needs saving from a madman.
While nothing about the plot has been released by the filmmakers, it is widely believed that the sequel will focus on Jack-Jack Parr, the youngest of the family. In the first movie, it was revealed that Jack-Jack is actually the most powerful member of the family with a host of supernatural abilities. This has been reinforced in the short film Jack-Jack Attack which showed what happened during the latter part of the first movie when Jack-Jack was left to the care of a babysitter.
Brad Bird who was busy working on the film Tomorrowland starring George Clooney should be free now to work on the Incredibles sequel after production for Tomorrowland has been wrapped up. In an interview with NPR, Bird said that the Incredibles sequel is "percolating". He added that he's just starting to write the script for the new movie. By the way things are shaping up; it looks like fans of the movie will have to wait until 2017 or 2018 to see the sequel. During the interview, Bird also talked about lending his voice talent to the character of Edna Mode. "I was exceedingly cheap and available," said the famed writer.
With Disney CEO Robert Iger's confirmation, "Incredibles 2" is definitely coming to the silver screen. For sure, it will become a much-anticipated film for the whole family to enjoy.
