Another big name has been added to the already impressive cast for the latest big screen adaptation of the timeless Beauty and the Beast story. After playing the character of a very powerful wizard and an equally powerful mutant in two different movies, Sir Ian McKellen's new role would that be of a little clock who can talk. That is, McKellen will be playing Cogsworth in the movie slated to be released in 2017.
Before the announcement of McKellen's entry to the cast for Beauty and the Beast, it was already confirmed that Emma Watson will play the role of Belle. This movie will reunite Watson with screenwriter Stephen Chbosky. Both worked on the movie The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Joining them will be Dan Stevens playing the role of the Beast. Luke Evans meanwhile has been selected to play the role of Gaston with Josh Gad as his sidekick LeFou. Emma Thompson was casted as Mrs. Potts and Kevin Kline will be acting as Belle's father.
The movie will be following the plot of the timeless classic which sees a young woman agreeing to live with a monster in exchange for her father's freedom. The monster though is actually an arrogant prince under a spell. It is widely believed that this adaptation will be as faithful to the 1991 animated movie complete with all the musical numbers. To this end, Emma Watson was reported to have been taking singing lessons in preparation.
The addition of another big name to the cast is sure to attract more attention to the movie. Only a handful of characters are left to be cast including Lumière, Cogsworth friend. There is a lot of speculation as to who will be picked to take that role although some have pointed out that Patrick Stewart would be great alongside his real life friend Ian McKellen.
