Wonder Woman was poised to take center stage in a movie for the first time as Warner Bros look to create a shared universe just like what Marvel has done but it something always seem to go wrong. This time, the latest hitch in the production of the movie is the departure of female director Michelle MacLaren over "creative differences". The news was reported Monday, April 13. MacLaren joined the development of the movie back in November to much fanfare.
From TV to Movie
MacLaren made a name for herself with her directing prowess in full display on a couple of hit TV series. She worked on Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones. At the announcement that she will be directing the new Wonder Woman movie, it marked the first time that a female director was given the keys to a major superhero movie. The recent news means that that distinction is still up for grabs. There is no word from Warner Bros whether they will replace MacLaren with another female director. It can be remembered that Warner Bros picked MacLaren from a list of female directors including Kathryn Bigelow and Catherine Hardwicke.
Time Period and Tiger Sidekick
New reports have surfaced that Michelle MacLaren wanted to give the superhero a tiger for a sidekick. The said idea did not sit well with the studio according to reports. Another point of contention between Warner Bros and MacLaren is the time period that the movie will be set in.
Still Onboard
Israeli actress Gal Gadot who plays Wonder Woman in the movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is still onboard to play the lead role in the Wonder Woman movie. She has signed a three-film contract with the studio including two Justice League films.
A Legend Returns?
Of course, when Wonder Woman is the subject, the name Lynda Carter has to be included in the conversation. She is after all the most notable actress to have played the role. Will she be joining the cast for the first major motion picture for the superhero? Carter admitted that Warner Bros is yet to contact her about a possible appearance. She claimed that if she'll be given the chance, she would want a part bigger than just a cameo appearance.
It is still unclear whether the departure of MacLaren will also push back the scheduled release of the film. Fans of the female superhero would have to wait for future announcement from Warner Bros regarding the now vacant directorial position.
