By

LG G2 under carrier T-Mobile has begun receiving the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update today following Verizon Wireless' version.

T-Mobile officially announced today via its support page that their versions of LG G2 will be updated with the Android 5.0.2 from April14 until May 22. The installation can be done via over-the-air (OTA) update or through manual pull down.

Like any other update, Android 5.0.2 will come in stages which means some areas across the U.S. will gradually and randomly get it first before the other. Google will show a notification message to automatically download the update. In cases that automatic update does not show up, users can opt for a manual process.

Before initializing the android 5.0.2 Lollipop installation, check the current software version first. Head to home screen > Menu > System > General > About phone > Software information. To be able to download the stock firmware patch, users must have versions D80120g, D80120e, D80120a, D80110g and JDQ39B. If the version is D80130b, this means the device is already up to date. Other software versions mean the phone has non-T-Mobile software and it is unsupported.

The update is 617MB. Make sure the battery is charged up to 50 percent and is connected to a Wi-Fi connection. To download the update via phone, head to Settings > General > About phone > Update center > system updates > Check now. Then follow on screen instructions.

Before downloading the update via computer, here are important reminders.

1. Make sure the battery is fully charged.

2. Back up important data on a micro SD card or PC.

3. Remove the micro SD memory card.

4. Boot all running apps on the computer.

5. Make sure "Mass storage only" option is not selected.

To download Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, follow the instructions below:

1. Connect G2 to Pc using a USB cable.

2. Click Start Updating in the LG Mobile Support Tool.

If the update is completed, the device will be notified before it turns off then turn on. T-Mobile did not provide a changelog for the update but based on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop update on other devices, the firmware will bring lock screen notifications, more notification controls, new stock apps, Material Design, enhanced navigation buttons, Smart Lock and more.
