In the past few years, Disney has been gradually re-imagining their beloved fairytales and has released quite a number of live-action versions. This trend continues with the recent announcement that "Winnie the Pooh" is next in-line to be given the live-action treatment. Plot will be connected to Alice in Wonderland story arc and not an origin story.
After the success of Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent, and Cinderella, Disney has announced that more live-action versions of their beloved fairytales are coming to the big screen. And now, fans of the Pooh Bear will be in for a treat as it has been confirmed that a Winnie the Pooh live-action film is in the works. And like the ones already released, the Winnie the Pooh film will not be based on the original book or animated series.
The film's plot has been rumored to be somewhat like that of the Alice in Wonderland story arc - not an origin story. Although not yet confirmed, it is reported that in the film, we will see an adult Christopher Robin revisiting the gang's old hangout in Hundred Acre Woods. Winnie the Pooh might also incorporate other elements of the original A. A. Milne stories, but it will definitely not be an adaptation. Disney studios have verified that Alex Ross Perry will be working on the script.
The Winnie the Pooh books of A. A. Milne have been known to follow the adventures of Christopher Robin and his beloved stuffed toys around the Hundred Acre Woods. The books tackle themes like friendship, basic values, and generally about growing up. If these themes are to be followed in the live-action version, along with the rumored revisiting of an adult Christopher Robin, then there might be some flashbacks and reminiscing expected.
With Disney studios confirming their announcements and the script underway, the re-imagining of Pooh Bear's adventures is sure to excite the fans. The Winnie the Pooh live-action film is expected to come to the big screen sometime 2017 or 2018.
