Facebook Timeline: What's the Problem?

By

A question that is ever-popular in the social media users' minds these days is this: Is there any way to get rid of Facebook's Timeline? The social media site began rolling it out early this year, whether you wanted it or not.

According to the FB site, "Your timeline is your collection of the photos, stories, and experiences that tell your story." This includes status updates, photos, friendships, marital status changes, basically any information you've recorded in your profile.

PC Magazine helped debunk some myths about Timeline back in January 2012, i.e., that once something appears on your Timeline you can't get rid of it and that you have no control over who views the information there.

Here's an excerpt from the article, "12 Things You Should Know About Facebook Timeline" that addresses these questions:

Q: Can I restrict which people who can see certain pieces of information, photos, and other details of my Timeline?

A: Yes! In the same way that you can manage who can see a status update or photo, you can limit who sees all the entries of your Timeline. Each entry has a drop-down menu next to it that lets you filter who can see the item.

Q: Can I delete status updates, images, and other content from my Timeline?

A: Yes! Deleting is an option. Just click that pen icon to edit, and you'll see "delete."

But getting back to the original question, can you get rid of Timeline all together and go back to the way Facebook was, the answer to that is, No.
