It will not just be an ensemble cast for the film adaptation of the non-fiction book 'The Big Short: Inside The Doomsday Machine'. Director Adam McKay will have at his disposal probably the greatest cast list in the past decade, as production has officially began for 'The Big Short' in New Orleans.
As reported, Brad Pitt (Fight Club,Fury) will produce and have a significant role as Ben Hockett, a partner at Cornwall Capital. Christian Bale (American Hustle, The Dark Knight Trilogy) will portray hedge fund manager and physician Michael Burry. Steve Carrell will be Steve Eisman, the money manager from FrontPoint Partners notable for shorting securitized subrime home mortgages.
Lastly, Ryan Gosling (Drive, Only God Forgives, Half Nelson) is tasked to portray the Deutsche Bank trader, Greg Lippmann. All these characters were the prime maverick investors who went against the flow before the outburst of the 2007 financial catastrophe, as pointed out in the aforementioned bestseller written by Michael Lewis. They are aIso joined by Academy Award-winning actress Marissa Tomei and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and actor Tracy Letts.
The A-list collective will also be rounded up with Hamish Linklater, John Magaro,Byron Mann, Rafe Spall, Jeremy Strong, and Finn Wittrock.
Director McKay may have a lot on his plate for this project but the 'Anchorman' and 'Talladega Nights' director is certainly on a roll. McKay is also being tapped by Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige to be the helmsman for another superhero comic book adaptation entitled "Inhumans". This comes as no surprise as McKay co-wrote the screenplay for the upcoming movie "Ant-Man" with Paul Rudd.
In related news, Beyonce who was rumored to appear in the said film as mentioned by Lewis despite claims during an interview on 'CBS This Morning' last month will not be included in the star-studded production. The movie will be also be produced by Academy Award winner Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner of 12 Years A Slave fame via Plan B Entertainment.
