Game of Thrones Season 5 episode two has welcomed the return of fan favorite Tom Wlaschiha as Jaqen H'ghar. In the current season of the hit HBO series, Wlaschiha's character will aid Maisie Williams' character Arya Stark in her new mission in Braavos, where she will be training with the Faceless Men.
On GoT's Sunday episode, entitled, "The House of Black and White," Arya and Jaqen reunited for the first time after parting ways in GoT second season. In an interview with Making Game of Thrones, the actor behind the popular GoT character opened up about his return on the show, as well as about his character's relationship with Williams' Arya.
When asked whether he knew he would return after his departure in season two, Tom Wlaschiha said, "No. I had some hope, but it was tricky. The character's not in the books anymore, so far, at least." He admitted he had hoped to come back, but that "normally what you hope for on Game of Thrones doesn't happen."
The 41-year-old actor said people still do not know what his character's agenda in the current season is, or if there is any. "It seems like there's some bigger plan behind it," Wlaschiha stated.
He also described Jaqen's relationship with Arya as some kind of teacher-student relationship. "Arya's whole relationship with Jaqen also changes because he wants to teach her, but he's not going to make it easy for her. He never tells her exactly what he wants from her; he gives her hints. He wants her to think for herself and to find her own path."
Maisie Williams herself has given hints of what fans can expect from Arya in this new season of the globally hit saga. In a recent interview, she revealed that her character will explore a new storyline in the fifth season. Regarding Arya's arrival at the House of Black and White, the 18-year-old actress said Arya went to that place out of necessity, "because nothing else was really working."
"She's just looking for someone new and someone who will take her under their wing and show her happiness...She can become someone new for a little while," Williams said.
