‘Game of Thrones’ star Liam Cunningham confirms Season 5 scene will be more shocking than the Red Wedding

HBO's Game of Thrones is renowned for killing off characters and leaving many fans shocked, but GoT Season 5 apparently will take the killing game a notch higher. According to Liam Cunningham, the star of the hit fantasy series, Game of Thrones Season 5 will feature a scene even more shocking than the infamous Red Wedding scene.

Cunningham, 53, plays Ser Davos Seaworth in the mega-hit TV adaptation of George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire book series. In a recent interview, the Irish actor revealed he got surprised with GoT showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss' plans after receiving the scripts.

Speaking on Sky Atlantic's discussion show Thronecast, Cunningham said there will be a scene in the current season that will shock viewers more than the brutal Red Wedding scene. "I would think so, yes. It's towards the end of the season and when I got the scripts, when I got to this particular section, I went: 'You've gotta be kidding me,'" the actor admitted.

The Red Wedding scene, which took place in Game of Thrones Season 3, featured the bloody massacre of various major characters at a wedding feast, including the gruesome killing of a pregnant woman, wrote The Independent. Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark in the hit HBO series, also mentioned the controversial scene earlier this year. In an interview with HuffPost Entertainment, Turner described the upcoming scene on Game of Thrones Season 5 as "traumatic," particularly for her character Sansa.

"There's some massive moments, perhaps even more shocking than the Red Wedding type of thing," the English actress said. "There's a lot going on this season. There's also, you know, a lot of blood, a lot of death."

Even George R.R. Martin himself warned fans that the fifth season of the immensely popular saga will bring big surprises not only to avid GoT fans but to book readers as well. This is because certain GoT Season 5 deaths will only occur on the hit show, and not in the books.

"People are going to die who don't die in the books, so even the book readers will be unhappy," the 66-year-old author told Showbiz411 earlier this year. "Everybody better be on their toes."
