Alan Wake is one of those unique games that appears once in a while and suddenly sends shockwaves across the gaming world. The game is a suspense/thriller/horror game that tells the story of Alan Wake a story writer, whose writings suddenly became real things Wake has to encounter. Its plot is a mind-boggling success and many are hoping that a sequel will come through but sadly, none is confirmed to arrive yet. Though it doesn't mean that a sequel is out of the question.
According to Polygon, Remedy Entertainment had always wanted to add a sequel to Alan Wake. They said,
"For Alan Wake, from the get-go, we assumed there was going to be a sequel and we mapped things further out when it came to character, story, details and focus changes,"
Alan Wake is a turn back in time when games were story driven and not focused on open-world, exploration fest titles. Story-driven games are tight, intense and often times, riveting as the gamer is plunged into the twists and turns of a narration done through video.
Though the idea was thrilling, lack of support was the main reason why Alan Wake 2 didn't came to be. Remedy had already a prototype for development, but producers were not ready to delve more into the title. Sam Lake, Creative director in Remedy said as posted on Eurogamer.
"They have been really supportive about Alan Wake and [Xbox boss] Phil Spencer has been awesomely supportive when it comes to Remedy and Alan Wake along the way," Lake concluded.
"[But] we showed it to Microsoft and I guess at the time Microsoft was looking for something slightly different for their portfolio."
Microsoft denied the pitch as they we busy on other game project, mainly "Quantum Break." Recently a video of this prototype went online and many are hoping that Remedy continue its attempts to get the support needed to make the sequel into a reality.
