Tony Scott Autopsy: Hollywood Director Died from Blunt Force Injuries and Drowning

By

The acclaimed Hollywood director Tony Scott died from multiple blunt force injuries and drowning, according to an autopsy report released by the Los Angeles County coroner Monday. His death has been listed as a suicide.

He was found to have therapeutic levels of the antidepressant Remeron and the sleep aid Lunesta in system, the Associated Press reported. On August 19, around noon, Scott parked his Toyota Prius near the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro, scaled an eight-to-ten foot tall wire fence and jumped 185 feet to his death.

According to reports by the coroner's office made at the time, he left a list of contacts in his car and a suicide note, though its contents have not been made public.

Police divers recovered his body within a few hours.

The British-born, 68-year-old Anthony David Scott had a stellar career, directing such hits as "Top Gun," "Beverly Hills Cop II" and "Crimson Tide."

There is still no explanation for his death.

ABC News apologized for an earlier report it made that Scott had inoperable brain cancer and citing it as a possible reason for his suicide. ABC News has retracted the Aug. 20 story and in its article about the coroner's report, extends a formal apology to Scott's family and friends. The report showed no evidence of brain cancer.

Scott is survived by his wife, Donna Wilson Scott, their twin sons, and his brother, film director Ridley Scott.
