"Outlander Season 1" still has surprising episodes up its sleeves now that it is nearing its finale. In the last episode "Lallybroch," the Frasers went back to Jamie's home but they were welcomed with bad memories. The next episode will reveal more of Jamie's past that might put him and his wife to danger.
Jamie will be haunted even more by his past in the upcoming episode of "Outlander" titled, "The Watch."Going back to his hometown made him realize that he cannot really escape his dark past. In "Outlander" season 1 episode 13, Jamie and Ian will decide to join "The Watch" while Claire helps Jenny as she goes into labor.
The next episode's title suggests that the story could again center on Jamie and the repercussions of him going back to his home. The cliffhanger in episode 12 where he ended up with a gun on his head will most likely continue on next week's episode. "The Watch" might also focus on Jamie and Claire' efforts to escape the unfortunate situation. This could also be a way for Claire to save her husband this time around since in the previous episodes, it was Jamie who went to great extent to save her wife.
Fans were shocked at the events in the "Lallybroch" episode especially with the rape scene involving Jamie's sister, Jenny. The scene was a haunting flashback of Jack Randall trying to sexually assault Jenny. Randall was not able to execute the abusive act that allowed Jenny to laugh (or mock) at his manhood leading him to knocking her out.
A report said that the scene is just a testament to the show's obsession with sexual assault that borders on being exploitative. However, the scene embodied the famous quote, "Men are afraid that women will laugh at them. Women are afraid that men will kill them." The scene exposed the fractured, violent mind of Randall when he got humiliated by Jenny's desperate laughs. The laughter then is a symbol of the Jenny's power over her violator despite the palpable threat in her life.
Though the latest episode of "Outlander" is considered a lull to the season's arc, it still managed to hook the audience and watch out for "The Watch" to see the Frasers fight for their safety while dealing with the other repercussions of their return to Jamie's town especially his dark past. "Outlander" season 1 episode 13 will air on May 2 on Starz.
