Mick Schumacher is off to a good start to a racing career following in his father's footsteps with his big Formula 4 win this weekend. The inaugural race was held at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben in Oschersleben, Germany where the young rookie took the top spot.
Mick Schumacher is driving for Van Ammersfoort Racing where he leads the rookie standings for this season's ADAC Formula 4 series. Schumacher Jr. finished the Saturday run at 9th place after starting at the 19th position. The second leg finished the teenager at 12th on Sunday, and finished first place for the third leg. The Karting graduate started strong, leading the whole of the last leg after starting at 2nd position, and finished the run behind a safety car when young Australian driver Joseph Mawson put pressure on him on the final lap. ADAC Motorsports released full results of the Formula 4 race.
The win has placed young Mick Schumacher at the fifth overall position for this season, with seven rounds still remaining and 21 races left in the season. The big debut of the young driver has placed him at the top position for all Rookie drivers this season, ahead of Jonathan Ceccotto and Thomas Preining.
"I'm ecstatic, of course. My first race weekend could not have gone better," the teen was quoted post-race.
Schumacher continues, "We had a good start, because my tyres were still fresh, and it went well from then on, apart from at the end where things were close again. I was not too unhappy about the safety car.
"All in all, I'm really pleased with this start to the season and look forward to the next set of races."
No doubt his esteemed father Michael Schumacher is proud of his son's big win. To date, top F1 driver Michael Schumacher is the greatest driver in history, with 7 title championships and a total of 91 race wins in his racing career spanning more than 20 years. Schumacher is currently on his road to recovery following a devastating 2013 accident when the athlete fell and sustained severe head injuries while skiing in France.
The next set of three-header race is set for June 6 and 7 at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Styria in Austria. Will Mick Schumacher continue to win for his father?
