There have been conflicting reports on whether Iron man 4 will become a reality or not. As it stands at the moment, it is not looking good for Iron Man fans. The possibility will always there since this franchise has meant hundreds of millions to Marvel, but Robert Downey Jr.'s fee is just a bit too much and as a result, they have decided to postpone production on the fourth installment. Whether this is a negotiating tactic on Downey's part remains to be seen.
Robert Downey Jr; came out on Ellen to confirm that Iron Man 4 will happen, only to retract it the next day. He did confirm, however, that he will be part of Captain America 3: Civil War. The premise is Iron man will be at odds with Chris Evans' character but not necessarily playing the villain.
It was announced today that Baron Zemo will be the villain in the next Captain America installment. Ironman is too loved and adored in the Marvel cinematic universe to end up being the bad guy. This movie will still be about Steve Rogers but more importantly, it will serve as the opening act of Marvel's phase 3, Infinity Wars. Robert Downey Jr. had this to say about his involvement in Civil War:
"Ultimately it's Steve's story; it doesn't say ‘Iron Man 4: Civil War'. I think that's great too. I think Chris [Evans] has been hungry to bring even more of an underside and some shadow to that. I remember the comics - on the surface you got the sense that Cap was baseball and apple pie, but underneath there was all this churning stuff of being a man out of time. Now we know he's made his peace with that. What's the bigger issue? It can have a little something to do with the past, but it can be about someone becoming more modernized in their own conflict."
Ironman 4 being made will be largely dependent on whether Marvel is willing to pay Downey's fee. The question of fans wanting a fourth part is moot since the answer is a resounding yes. The franchise is too big for there not to be a fourth one. I have a feeling it will happen and these things have a way of working themselves out. In the meantime, there's always Captain America: Civil War to look forward to in the summer of 2016.
