Star Wars: The Force Awakens still remains mostly a mystery. While the trailer that dropped a few weeks ago unloaded plenty of new information on hungry Star Wars fans, the seventh episode of the Star Wars franchise is still far more secretive than it is out in the open. But star Oscar Isaac is changing that- talking openly about his character, and what that character's doing in the film.
Isaac will be playing Poe Dameron, the character seen piloting an X-Wing in both Star Wars teaser trailers. According to the press surrounding the film, Dameron will be one of the film's centrail characters (and probably one of the entire trilogy's central characters), and is an incredible fighter pilot.
In speaking to IGN, Isaac talked about how Poe Dameron will be a happier character, and may even bring some comic relief to the film.
"[Joy] is where J.J. [Abrams] operates from. You know the whole thing is infused with such enthusiasm. Such joy. And I think that I definitely do get to inhabit a lot of that feeling. And I know it sounds weird, but the ecstasy of war, which is something that I read about. I read this book called, 'What it's Like to Go to War', which is literal. And this guy talked about that a lot - particularly with pilots. You know that feeling takes you to this weird, sacred space. It's this kind of high that happens. But yeah, I think that J.J. just infuses his enthusiasm and his passion for this story in every frame."
Given the dark tone seen in some parts of the teaser (especially with Darth Vader's helmet and the villain, Kylo Ren), a little lightness and enthusiasm could go a long way. Isaac also spoke on Poe Dameron's friendship with the film's new droid, BB-8. Apparently, the two will get along just fine:
"Well, I mean you've seen BB-8! It's very hard not to bond with that little guy. I mean, it's amazing. It's an amazing design, too. I mean, just everybody that worked to make him come to life - or to make it come to life. Let's not give it a gender. It was just so cool to witness that. BB-8 definitely has its own modes of expression that are very unique."
However, don't go asking Star Wars mastermind George Lucas about the new film- according to the man himsel, he knows absolutely nothing about The Force Awakens.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens will premiere in theaters on December 18, 2015.
