Alice Eve has taken back her statement that Bruce Jenner was "playing at being a woman" after the latter's gender transformation revelation. While her earlier message has already sent netizens abuzz, more comments continued to pour in.
OLD STATEMENT
Earlier, Eve posted a message on her Instagram referring to Bruce Jenner who has recently confessed about his transformation as a woman. She said that if he were a woman, he would have not been heard of because women cannot compete in the decathlon. Eve also said that "playing at being a woman" while receiving benefits as a man is not fair unless women are compensated equally. This statement, which was already deleted, was met with mixed reactions.
A report says that in an interview, Eve has also said sorry for having offended other people although she did not mean to. She also expressed her support for Bruce Jenner.
NEW STATEMENT
On Monday, the Star Trek Into Darkness star posted on Instagram a picture of a transgender and a message clarifying that she is "a supporter of anyone who wishes to explore their gender identity."
"Sometimes language doesn't express the spectrum of identity sufficiently, as in this case," Alice Eve said.
She says she is an advocate for equal rights.
"Whatever your race, colour or creed," she also wrote.
She also posted a photo of a Muslim woman with a moustache who seemed trapped in a man's body and used the hashtag "EqualPay EqualRights". However, this has garnered negative reactions saying she was not being true to her first statement. On the other hand, her posts have gathered followers to talk seriously about rights especially at the workplace.
Eve gamely replied to some of the comments she got and even thanked them for raising interesting issues that enlightened her.
With Bruce Jenner's recent transformation revelation and Alice Eve's statements, the discussion on the never-ending issue on gender and equality has once again been opened.
