David Letterman, host of the Late Show with David Letterman, said that Jon Stewart would have been a good choice to replace him. With Stephen Colbert announced as the new host of the show, Letterman said he did not need to give Colbert tips on running the show.

David Letterman is set to leave the show on CBS this coming May 20 after his 33 years of hosting stint. In an interview with New York Times, the 68 year old host said he was not asked about his opinion on who will replace him although he says it no longer bothers him now. He admits it is not his business anymore since he is already leaving the network. He thought though that Jon Stewart would be a good replacement.

"And then Stephen. And then I thought, well, maybe this will be a good opportunity to put a black person on, and it would be a good opportunity to put a woman on. Because there are certainly a lot of very funny women that have television shows everywhere. So that would have made sense to me as well," he said.

When asked if he has given any advice to Colbert whom he has talked to after the announcement, Letterman said he did not have to. He said Colbert is no longer a beginner. Letterman also finds Colbert as dynamic.

Just recently, Stephen Colbert said he does not want to take over Jon Stewart's The Daily Show. In a report, he said he would not want to be the one to replace Stewart whom he describes as the "most intelligent" person he has ever worked with.

Stephen Colbert will start hosting the Late Show on September 8. A report said Letterman's final taping will end on May 20.

So months from now, the Late Show with David Letterman may be watched out for by viewers as the Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
