Verdun Finally Hits PC After Years In Early Access, But Does It Give The Great War Justice?

By

Verdun finally is released from its almost 2-year Early Access captivity and is now available on Steam for PC. However, does it really give justice to the First World War? M2H seems to have checked all the authenticity check boxes as they confidently placed these achievements on their marketing page.

M2H and BlackMill games, the developers of this First World War Shooter boasts a number of features that will ensure that the Great War is properly recreated in this unique game. As posted on their Verdun Official Website, the game will feature.

  • Realistic World War 1 gameplay: Authentic weaponry with realistic bullet physics, skill based weapon handling, poisonous gas with a claustrophobic gas mask experience and artillery barrages
  • Tactical squad-based FPS: Unique squad leveling system, distinct squad types and roles, voice chat
  • True trench warfare: Real-time dynamic frontline with momentum-based attack and counter-attack gameplay
  • Authentic World War 1 setting: Typical WW1 music and style, historical battlefields set on the Western Front
  • Challenging game modes: Team-based Frontline and skill-based Rifle Deathmatch

It is also posted on the game's website that the developers enlisted the help of historians to help them achieve authenticity in the game.

However, one of the noticeable things missing from the game is a good, single player campaign mode. Though the strength of Verdun is its multiplayer feature, gamers would still find it "incomplete" without a good, story that will round it up. In fact, the game can be a great avenue to re-educate the youth of today about this brutal but influential conflict, which was heavily overshadowed by its "byproduct," World War 2.

Nevertheless, M2H promises people interested in playing the Verdun that they have more content in store. They have already provided a roadmap detailing the upcoming expansions and DLCs they will provide that will juice out every potential of this unique First World War shooter.

The game is currently on 10% discount on Steam, which will end on May 5, 2015.
