The Last of Us: Left Behind to become a standalone download for both the PS3 and PS4

By

Fans of the critically-acclaimed single player survival game The Last of Us will now get the chance to obtain the expansion for the game known as Left Behind when it becomes available as a standalone download for both the Playstation 3 and Playstation 4. The news came directly from both Sony and Naughty Dog, the game's publisher and developer respectively.

The single player expansion for The Last of Us will be available for $10, according to Gamespot. Along with the announcement of the single player expansion transitioning into a standalone download, Sony and Naughty Dog also announced that the price of the Left Behind DLC will also be lowered for the Playstation 3.

Left Behind is already included in The Last of Us Remastered that has been released for the Playstation 4.

For fans who may not be familiar with Left Behind, it actually is thought of as kind of a prequel to the main game which shows events taking place between one of the game's main characters, Ellie, and her friend named Riley, according to Wired UK. When played along with the main game, Left Behind actually takes place during the main arc of the game.

The new Left Behind standalone game is also expected to come with some new features. A two hour trial of the Factions Multiplayer mode will be coming to the game when it is released. The game itself will also include built-in upgrade paths available via the in-game store, according to the official Playstation Blog.

Left Behind is intended to entice players who may know about The Last of Us but have yet to play it, to finally decide on picking up the controller and joining Ellie on her harrowing journey. It's meant to be an introduction to the main game, and Sony and Naughty Dog's intent is to use the story of Ellie and Riley to lure gamers into learning more about the game.

Left Behind will be available starting May 12.
