Another Disney fairy-tale is on its way to the big screens, and no doubt would catch the hearts of people of all ages. The Adventures of Pinocchio which was written by Carlo Collodi in 1883 will be turned into a live-action movie with a working title Pinocchio.
To give you a short recap of the story, Pinocchio is a story about a lonely woodcarver named Geppetto who creates a wooden boy who comes to life. It revolves around Pinocchio, whose nose grows longer each time he tells a lie. Jiminy Cricket and the Blue Fairy help Pinocchio to go on a long adventure, learn to stop lying, and finally becomes a real boy. It is a father and son relationship, which shows a deep bond between them. Well, there is no need retelling the whole plot as many have already seen the movie a number of times already.
Though there were some Pinocchio remakes already like the original Pinocchio story that Disney bought in 1940 and put to big screen, Trimark's "Pinocchio's Revenge", but in the recent years the film of Roberto Benigni, who directed and starred in Pinocchio in 2002, was the most memorable.
Aside from Pinocchio, Disney has also announced new remakes of its best loved cartoons: Mulan, Beauty and the Beast, Dumbo, Winnie the Pooh, as well as a sequel to Alice in Wonderland. And this makes Disney to stick to its strategy, turning classic fairy-tales into a box office hit movie.
"Fairy tales are perfect for Hollywood as there is no rights-holder to deal with. There's no copyright," says Steven Gaydos, executive editor of Hollywood trade magazine Variety. "Hollywood used to be the dream factory; now it's the franchise factory," he added. Originality is already obsolete these days, especially Disney bringing the classics into life. With Maleficent and Cinderella earning millions of dollars, it's unsurprisingly for Disney to stay on the live-action party wagon.
For now the only attached to the Pinocchio live-action film is its screenwriter Peter Hedges, also, release date is not available yet.
