Will Poulter, the British 22-year-old actor best known for his roles in "The Maze Runner," "We're The Millers," and "The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader" was casted as the clown known Pennywise for the upcoming film reboot of Stephen King's "It."
The upcoming role of Will Poulter is a major breakthrough as it veers away from the characters he used to play before. Poulter is still in negotiations with the producers of the movie but according to a report, he blew Cary Fukunaga, the Emmy-winning director behind the first season of HBO's "True Detective," during his audition. Fukunaga will be directing and co-writing the said reboot of Stephen King's "It."
The original actor who played the role of the evil clown was Tim Curry and Poulter is to fill some big shoes since the first movie was really a hit. Fukunaga initially expressed his concern that he might not be able to find the right actor to play Pennywise the clown's role but is said to be happy with what Poulter was able to bring on the table.
Fukunaga earlier considered older actors for the role of Pennywise such as Mark Rylance and Ben Mendelsohn but after their auditions, he reportedly wanted to take on a different route and look for a younger actor. Insiders who were able to see the audition of Poulter shared that the 22-year-old really had what it takes to take on the villainous lead.
The reboot for Stephen King's "It" is said to be split into two movies. The first movie will be about the main characters as children while the second half will be about them as adults.
Poulter will be appearing as Pennywise the clown for Stephen King's "It" reboot movie that is being directed and co-written by Emmy-award winning director Fukunaga. There is still no release date regarding the reboot of the film.
