It's big news for Star Wars fans as Disney revealed a few details of the film's spin-off 'Star Wars: Rogue One', and that 'Star Wars' 2nd Anthology film has been confirmed to be Boba Fett's origin story.
According to BGR, the panel, composed of the film's director Gareth Richards (also the director of Godzilla) and other Lucasfilm executives, shared some interesting details about the movie's plot. Richards shared that it "will revolve around a rogue band of resistance fighters who unite for a daring mission to steal the Death Star plans and bring new hope to the galaxy."
It will be set between the events of "Episode III: Revenge of the Sith" and "Episode IV: A New Hope." Interestingly enough, it will feature characters who do not have magical powers like the Jedi, according to Richards. The film will also have a darker tone compared to the other films in the franchise.
The movie will star Theory of Everything's Felicity Jones, Ben Mendelsohn and Riz Ahmed.
The filming of the said movie will be in U.K and other locations around the world.
Meanwhile, Right after it was confirmed that Chronicle and Fantastic Four Josh Trank will not be directing the upcoming second Star Wars Anthology, a word comes, via The Wrap, that the movie project will be a Boba Fett origin story. Fans will have to wait years for the film, though, as it is scheduled to be released in 2018.
Boba Fett is a Mandalorian warrior who was trained by his father-figure Jango Fett and became a notorious bounty hunter throughout the galaxy, having worked with the Empire, Darth Vader, and Jabba the Hutt.
Fett, who was played by played by English Actor Jeremy Bulloch most of the Star Wars films, including The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, has been one of the series' most marketable and iconic creations despite his very limited screen time in the movies. Though some of young Boba's journey was revealed in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, this will be the first time his story is told in full on the big screen.
This will be the second Star Wars Anthology entry following Rogue One, directed by Gareth Edwards.
Writer-producer Simon Kinberg has been closely involved in the creative process for the second anthology film, which is set in a separate movie universe that is not associated with "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" or upcoming Episodes VIII and IX.
The new Anthology film is expected to hit theaters in 2018, following J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens this December 18, Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One on December 16, 2016, and Rian Johnson's Star Wars: Episode VIII on May 26, 2017.
