Indiana Jones Return Soon as New Story Mapped, Details from Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm

Nearly buried under all the ink spilled over the upcoming Star Wars film is the recent announcement that another of Harrison Ford's iconic characters is set to also receive a sequel.

Word of the new film came directly from Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy. Kennedy broke the news to Vanity Fair during an interview talking about the upcoming Star Wars movie. It's the first official confirmation that a new Indiana Jones movie is actually in the works, although industry analysts have long suspected the other franchise starring Harrison Ford to get its very own revival.

Whereas the plans for the Star Wars franchise are currently set at making three more movies and a who knows how many spinoffs, the plans for Indiana Jones were always murkier, according to Gamespot. With confirmation coming directly from Kennedy regarding the Indiana Jones movie, fans can feel more confident that not only is the sequel a virtual lock to be made, but that it will also be of high quality. She was heavily involved in the production of the earlier movies from the franchises, and it would seem to make her an ideal candidate to lead it going forward.

It's not just a story that the new Indiana Jones is lacking at the moment, as it would seem that the time is also now for a new man to take on the role of the heroic yet at times prickly professor. There appears to be no list of candidates at the moment, but Chris Pratt has been a rumored name for the role going on several months now, according to Coming Soon.

Kennedy has been adamant that the search for a new Indiana Jones would not begin unless there was a script in place first. A lot remains unknown about the new Indiana Jones movie, but simply knowing it is in the works is great news for fans.
