Apple Watch bands are now available through third party manufacturers who are tasked with creating different style options for the band. This option will allow Apple users for more flexible choices to personalize their new Apple wearable.
Apple has officially acknowledged partnership with third party band makers for it's newly release watch. Its Band Design Guidelines outline materials and measurement in manufacturing the "Made for Apple" bands. It allocates the focus of the creative look aspects of the band to its partners rather than adding features. It also suggests the use of durable and non-magnetic material to avoid interruption with the watch's heart rate sensor. The guidelines include illustrations for the band but have yet to provide detailed information about the mysterious ports of the Apple Watch which is connected to the strap.
Apple's developer page confirmed the existence of the 6-pin diagnostic port connected to its bands. And its placement in the website states that it's primarily dedicated to developers. However, some band manufacturers have already made considerations of the ports in creating their bands such as the Reserve Strap. Its makers claim that the ports used through the Reserve strap will boost the wearable's charging capabilities. Currently, there is a list of manufacturers with promising previews of their Apple Watch bands.
One of the impressive third party watch band maker Click is offering a band adapter. The Click adapter allows Apple Watch owners to use regular bands on their Apple wearable. Another battery charging band is from wiPowerBand which plans the use of separate lithium polymer rechargeable battery. Others offer a combo pack such as Lunatik's Epik Apple Watch Kit which includes both a strap and protective case. There are also reported companies producing replica of Apple Watch bands such as MyCell replacement bands.
Since Apple is widely known for manufacturing products with similar materials and production process. It wouldn't be much of a surprise for the company to delegate the creative concepts and production of accessories with different materials and styles.
