Mission Impossible 5, or Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation for those who value accuracy, features none other than Tom Cruise in the leading role yet again, and as fans of the franchise have grown to expect, the actor is attempting to take on yet another death-defying stunt once more.
It's already known that Cruise will be hanging from the side of an airplane for Mission Impossible 5, but it looks as though he has something even more dangerous in store to thrill audiences inside the cinemas. For his next great stunt, Cruise will be completing an entire underwater scene without a single cut in the action, according to Yahoo! UK.
"We have something I've always wanted to do: an underwater sequence without cuts. The kind of training I had to do for that was pretty intense. I've done a lot of underwater scenes but I've never done one [like this] that will get the audience to lean forward and have a visceral reaction," said Cruise.
Cruise has become well-known for being so daring when it comes to stunts, but the actor draws on somewhat unexpected sources of inspiration for this element of his performances. According to Cinema Blend, Cruise is inspired by the likes of Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, and Harold Lloyd to participate fully in his own stunts.
The actor says he's inspired by them because they figured out how to utilize their physicality to make their performances even better, the exact thing he aims to accomplish each time he does his own stunts. With his kind of approach to acting, there's no telling what else Cruise has in store for Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation.
The newest Mission Impossible movie will be directed by Christopher McQuarrie, a face familiar to Cruise given that he also directed the action film Jack Reacher. New additions are also being made to the cast, with Alec Baldwin set to star as the head of the CIA, and Rebecca Ferguson getting the nod to co-star with Cruise as Lisa Faust, according to the Digital Spy UK.
Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation will hit theaters on July 31.
