HTC One M8 to Officially Receive Android 5.1, Sense 7 Update this August; Users to Enjoy New Interface and Features

HTC One M8 users could look forward to getting the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop update and the new Sense 7 in August.

No less the HTC UK confirmed such to an HTC user who posted a question in their official Twitter account a few days ago.

"The HTC One M8 will have a software update for Android version 5.1 and Sense 7 in Auguts 2015 :)," HTC UK posted on 29 April.

It went on to say that the M9 is also set to receive the latest updates, although no official tieline is set yet.

HTC One M7 and M8 started receiving the Android 5.0 OTA update around mid-January to early-February. HTC product management vice president Mo Versi, apologized for missing its rollout goal, saying additional fixes needs to be done with some of the updates. Hopefully, this time around everyone gets the coming update.

The HTC One M8 originally came out-of-the-box with Android KitKat.

The Taiwanese phone manufacturer, however, set the proper expectations by saying that it might take a while before users across all regions are able to be fully reached by the Android 5.1 update for the HTC One M8 and other handsets.

The update would be released in stages.

It could be recalled that Nexus is the first phone OEM to push for the Android 5.1 (and later, Android 5.1.1) update, and HTC is one of the first to follow suit.

Even though Android 5.1 was intended as a maintenance release meant to fix some bugs and improve the overall system performance, the update also arrived with a handful of new features.

Device Protection will provide security to users, where it will keep the device locked (if security methods such as PIN code or pattern are on) even after a factory reset unless the Google password used to configure it initially is entered.

HD Audio is also supported on the newest Lollipop, and can be utilized as long as compatible devices are used and a strong enough signal is present.

The priority mode, a feature in 5.0 that allows users to set which notifications can use audible sounds, can be set to turn off automatically when the alarm goes off (as this mode is often used when users are asleep). It does not have to be manually turned off any more.

In Android 5.1, users can drag down the top of the screen to open the quick settings even if the phone is locked by a PIN code thereby allowing them to access the flashlight, bluetooth, WiFi, and other functions quickly.

Speaking of WiFi, the newest Android OS will be able to remember which connection signals are strong and will prioritize those connections when looking for one.

Android 5.1 users will be able to enjoy easier device sharing, wider language support, and longer battery life as well.

The Sense 7, on the other hand, is a new interface exclusively made by HTC for its users. One of the improvements is that users can change the grip app switcher to stock Lollipop style. App reshuffling, new widgets, BlinkFeed updates and new themes are something to look forward to as well in the Sense 7.

All these are something to look forward to by HTC One M8 users after getting the Android 5.1 update as well as the Sense 7.
