‘Beverly Hills Cop 4’ Update: Paramount pulls out Eddie Murphy; Film release pushed back due to “Batman vs Superman” Premiere

By

Paramount Pictures has pulled Eddie Murphy's "Beverly Hills Cop 4" out of its March 25, 2016 premiere date due to its script problems and 'Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice' competition. This event unfortunately postpones the actor's comeback with no new date set.

Comedian-actor Eddie Murphy has been planning Detective Axel Foley's return with the long in-development Brett Ratner's "Beverly Hills Cop 4". Yet, it seems like the actor's comeback vehicle will have to wait a little longer as the Paramount Pictures cancelled its planned March 25, 2016 release date, according to TheWrap.

It was only more than a year ago when Paramount announced the film's target release schedule, but its development has not progressed as quickly as they originally envisioned. Murphy has revealed in the past, stating in February that the script is not ready enough for him to officially sign on.

"They're still trying to get that script right. I'm not doing a 'Beverly Hills Cop' unless they have a really incredible script. I've read a couple things that look like they can make some paper, but I'm not doing a shitty movie just to make some paper. The shit got to be right," Murphy revealed.

However, the major factor which triggered the sequel to be pushed back is probably because of the film it would have found head-to-head with in the box office, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."

As much as fans are expecting the fourth franchise of "Beverly Hills Cop", it's not easy to compete with the Caped Crusader and the Man of Steel who are probably what the general audiences would prefer.

Although "Beverly Hills Cop 4" hasn't been pulled out entirely, an alternative release date was still not announced.

Jeck Bruckmeir will be producing "Beverly Hills Cop 4" while Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec, the screenwriters behind "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" and the upcoming "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2," were the last writers who were reported. The movie which story centers around Murphy's Axel Foley character returning to his native Detroit, is also set to be directed by Brett Ratner ("Rush Hour," "X-Men: The Last Stand").

The three previous "Beverly Hills Cop" films, which grossed a combined $735 million worldwide, were released in 1984, 1987 and 1994. Though the fourth one's scheduled release date is delayed, it should eventually hit theaters soon hopefully.
