Renee Ammari, 21 and Tanya Sayegh, 18 died of critical injuries after a Union Pacific Railroad Company train ran down their stalled vehicle near the Mission Inn Avenue grade crossing in Riverside, CA last October 31, 2007.
The wrongful death suit was filed by Makarem and Associates for and on behalf of the parents as well as the representatives of the estates of the victims. The suit alleges that the railroad company and its employee crew negligently operated the train as it failed to observe the stalled vehicle on the tracks. As a result of such negligence, the crew failed to apply the emergency brakes in time in order to avoid the collision that resulted in the death of the victims.
For its part, the railroad company denies any negligence as the crews were properly trained and operations were running smoothly for Union Pacific Railroad at the time of the accident.
