Morgan Freeman is now putting his name out there as a vocal supporter of marijuana legalization, and even says he has gotten good use out of it. The actor, known for his roles in Shawshank Redemption, and Driving Miss Daisy, among other, has said marijuana has helped him deal with pain stemming from fibromyalgia.
In an interview with The Daily Beast, Freeman said he has been suffering from that specific kind of pain, and the only thing that has managed to bring him any relief thus far has been marijuana. Freeman goes on to tout the virtues of marijuana by pointing out that it has also been used to help treat children with different kinds of medical conditions, including seizures.
"They're talking about kids who have grand mal seizures, and they've discovered that marijuana eases that down to where these children can have a life," said Freeman. The actor goes on to say that with the benefits to be gained from responsible marijuana usage, it almost becomes a no-brainer to make it completely legal, according to the Digital Spy.
Freeman even points to alcohol in his attempt at arguing for the legalization of marijuana, saying alcohol can be far more damaging and destructive than marijuana. He also says that alcohol has no direct medical benefit, unlike marijuana. Freeman also says he has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with marijuana, even indicating it that he consumes it in a variety of ways.
The actor's comments about marijuana come in the wake of him also speaking openly about the media coverage surrounding the Baltimore riots. He says the media has done a poor job of reporting the news without offering their own thoughts on the matter, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
He also commented on how cameras are being used to make police officers more accountable, indicating that the technology is now providing more insight into each specific case.
