Hugh Jackman in Wolverine 3 Will Be His Final As Era Draws to A Close But X-Men Apocalypse A Possibility

By

After a successful run portraying the iconic character from Marvel lore, Hugh Jackman is officially set to call it quits after Wolverine 3, as the film will mark the last time the actor portrays the mutant onscreen. Jackman has already played Wolverine in seven different movies. Aside from Wolverine 3, Jackman could also make an appearance as the superhero in X-Men: Apocalypse due out in 2016, but no announcement has been made as of yet.

Jackman made the announcement in a recent interview with Dr. Oz. On the show, Jackman made it very clear that Wolverine 3 would be the last time he played the character, saying this film will be his "last time," according to the Independent.

The actor has indicated that part of the reason why he has chosen to end his stint as Wolverine is because of the length of time he has already lent to the role. By the time Wolverine 3 comes out, it would mark year 17 for Jackman playing Wolverine.

The actor first took on the role of the Adamantium claw-wielding superhero back in 2000 when he starred in X-Men, according to the Daily Mail. It could be argued that his role in the said film was the one that truly helped put Jackman on the map stateside.

Apart from his retirement from the role, Jackman said little else about Wolverine 3. As of now, it appears the film will call on director James Mangold to call the shots. Mangold has worked previously with Jackman, as he also directed The Wolverine, which came out back in 2013, according to Entertainment Weekly. With the film still two years away however, any number of changes could still be made.

What looks like it won't be changing however, is Jackman's decision. The actor will still be busy, as he is set to star in the movie Pan, a film based on the Peter Pan story. As good as that film might ultimately be, fans of the actor and of Wolverine will still be looking forward to 2017.
