The Season 4 finale of "Once Upon A Time" shows that Emma Swan will be on the dark side as what the producers promised to the fans of the show when this season started months ago. In the last episode, the dagger will now contain the name of Emma Swan and fans are to except more of how the heroine conquers this situation.
"Once Upon A Time" finale was a journey to the alternate reality as the two-part finale entitled "Operation Mongoose" showed that Emma and Hook were taken back in time to the Fairytale land. The two-hour long season finale showed that the Author, played by Patrick Fischler, was having a fallout and he turned the villains of the book into heroes.
Henry, Emma's son, was stuck in the real world as everyone else was brought to the Fairytale land and he tried to talk to the author, Isaac Heller, who was on a book tour. He then took Isaac to the altered world where they transformed the characters into something else.
First, Rumple, was turned into "The Light One" and was married to Belle. Snow White became the Evil Queen as her loved one, James, died. Regina was hunted by Snow as the queen blames her for James' death. Emma was also locked up by her own mother while Hook became a humble pirate as oppose to his original character.
The author then told Henry that he had to fix things before the bell rings because if this happens, the alternate universe will be the real characters of the involved people. The author then tried to let Henry be eaten by ogres but Rumple saved him from a supposed unfortunate event. Regina then finds Henry and he tells her about the alterations made by the author but she does not believe him resulting to her burning the book. Regina was supposed to look for Robin and kiss him but he is set to marry Zelena, which means if the wedding bells ring, the alternate universe will be stuck the way it already is.
Henry then tried to look for Emma, who immediately knew who he was since her punishment was to know what was happening but not have any power to be able to fix it. They then look for Regina as the mother and daughter encourage her to tell Robin she loved him before she and Zelena gets married.
The trio got to the church but were already too late. However, Regina sacrificed her life for Henry and so Henry touched the quilt of the author making him an eligible author. He used the blood of Regina for him to undo the altered reality. Henry succeeded and everyone went back to Storybrooke.
However, Rumple's situation has not been going well. He was dying and the Apprentice vowed to save him. Emma used her magic to help The Apprentice. The Apprentice then pointed out that the one who controls the dagger can be the one to stop the darkness. That's when Emma's name was engraved on the dagger and so she was overtaken by the darkness.
