The Dark Knight creator Frank Miller is finally back in the Batman world. DC comics announced last April 24 that Miller will be writing a sequel to his The Dark Knight graphic novels. Although with his age and some ailments, Miller won't be providing the artwork for the project, and he won't be alone in writing the story.
Frank Miller's new project with DC Comics is titled The Dark Knight 3: The Master Race and is the conclusion to the Dark Knight trilogy - 1986's The Dark Knight Returns, and 2001-2002's Batman: The Dark Knight Strikes Again. According to DC, this will be released as a min-series with eight issues to be published twice a month starting this fall.
This time, as he is being challenged by old age and a few ailments, Frank Miller will be co-writing the series with fellow veteran Brian Azzarello, who gained acclaim in his recent revival of the Wonder Woman series. The two writers have been working on the story for six months now and are on the finishing stages of the conceptualization of the mini-series.
Aside from working with another writer, Miller will not be drawing for the new project, too. Artists who will be working on this project have not yet been announced by DC though. But from the looks of it, this seems like a big project that DC is excited about. After all, Miller was the mastermind behind the Dark Knight.
It was also in Miller's version of Batman where the Caped Crusader was revamped into a darker and brooding crime fighter, a female Robin was introduced, and the familiar alliance of Batman and Superman was put to the test and made them enemies. In fact, the upcoming DC movie Batman vs Superman is based on Miller's version of the Caped Crusader.
Set for publication this coming fall, The Dark Knight 3: The Master Race is the epic ending Frank Miller's Dark Knight saga.
